"Take your time and do it correctly"
Preparation:
- Accurately measure everything.
- Measure three times to ensure accuracy.
- Write down all measurements.
- Use a sharp pencil, print paper, and a ruler.
- Although it doesn't have to be perfect, it must be accurate.
- Use a 25 ft. tape measure.
- Ensure the end of the tape is on the drywall and not on the tile.
- Have someone hold it for you and pull it tight.
- If possible, put the measuring tape on the floor.
- Measure the height from the floor to the ceiling.
- Measure the length from the inside corner wall to the longest end wall.
- Measure the width from the inside opposing wall.
- Measure the width of the window above the sink. Put a piece of blue tape on the bottom of the glass and mark the center of the window glass.
- Measure the center point from the inside corner wall to the center of the window. This is the most important measurement so that the sink is centered in the window.
- Measure the window casing from inside the corner wall to the edge of the casing.
- Measure everything three times to ensure accuracy.
- Confirm that all measurements are triple-checked and accurate.
- Make a final decision on the cabinet style, color, hardware, sink, faucet, and all appliances. This is when you'll know what your budget will be.
- Sit down with the designer where you plan to purchase your cabinets.
- Give them a copy of your measurements.
- They will print out 3D drawings and overhead layouts showing all dimensions of the room. (See examples below).
- Ask them to email the 2020 drawings to you and to me. Make sure that the designer includes the detailed item list that shows every part number that is to be purchased and delivered. Missing parts happen 8 out of 10 times, so it's crucial that nothing is missed to prevent delays in installation.
- As soon as I receive the correct drawings, an estimate will be emailed to you for your review through the Square App, showing every detail and cost, followed by a service contract.
- Make a full-size 3-ring binder to keep all your paperwork and receipts throughout your project.
